Information from the International Student Office

Dear Students,

Many of you have probably heard about and/or read the guidance issued yesterday by SEVP and Immigration and Customs Enforcement as it relates to F1 international students studying in the US. Please note that this guidance relates to the upcoming Fall semester and is not for the current Summer semester - you are currently allowed to be studying online at this time. If you are graduating in September you are still be eligible to apply for OPT.

The President of NYFA, Michael Young, also sent an email yesterday explaining plans for the Fall. NYFA is planning to hold "hybrid classes" in the Fall which means a combination of online classes and on campus classes. As per the new government guidance, you will be allowed to enter and/or remain in the US as a F1 student taking hybrid classes.

It is important to understand that if for any reason NYFA must switch to all online classes at the campus you are attending, F1 international students will not be able to continue attending all online classes at that NYFA campus and remain in the US. Your options would be to transfer to one of NYFA’s other campuses or another school (that has all on campus classes or hybrid classes) or change your status to something else (tourist for example), or depart the US.

If you are currently outside of the US and plan to enter the US for the Fall semester please note you will need an updated I 20 that states that NYFA programs will be hybrid. Please be in touch with us so we can work to ship you this I 20 prior to entering the US.

If you plan to continue studying online from outside the US for the Fall semester, we will have to end your I 20 and F1 student immigration status. If/when you return to the US you will need to be issued a new I 20 in order to return.

Please note that these regulations are from the US government and all international students and NYFA must comply with these new rules and regulations. If there are any additional updates and/or changes we will be in touch with you.

Please be in touch with me if you have any questions or concerns and/or email the appropriate International Student Office with an update on your plans.

We look forward to welcoming you back on campus in the Fall!
