NYFA HEALTH ALERT REGARDING CORONAVIRUS - ALL NYFA CAMPUSES

Dear NYFA Students, Faculty, and Staff,

The New York Film Academy is committed to protecting the health and well being of its students, faculty and staff. Hence, we are closely monitoring the recent outbreak of the coronavirus in Central China and instituting the following precautionary measures to protect the health of our community.

The outbreak of the coronavirus originated in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. The CDC has recently confirmed that the virus has also spread to Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, and South Korea. There is also one confirmed case of the coronavirus in Seattle, Washington. Person-to-person spread is occurring, although it is unclear how the virus spreads from one person to another.

There is no current vaccine for this virus or other coronaviruses.

To minimize the likelihood of our community contracting the virus, NYFA is urging all students, faculty and staff who have spent time in Central China within the past two weeks to seek immediate medical evaluation and treatment if they are experiencing respiratory symptoms (cough, shortness of breath) and fever.

In following CDC and local public health department recommendations, NYFA is advising all students, faculty and staff to:
  • Wash your hands with soap and water or an alcohol based hand sanitizer, if soap and water is not available.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
The CDC has implemented health screenings in NYC at the JFK airport and in Los Angeles at the LAX airport. Even if you have been determined to not be at risk at the time of your screening, please heed the directions above. The incubation period for the coronavirus is 2-5 days. This means that if you contracted the virus on days shortly before arriving to campus, you wouldn’t experience any of the symptoms noted above until 2-5 days after having been exposed and infected.

For more information regarding the virus, please visit the CDC Information Page: https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/notices/watch/novel-coronavirus-china
